The Trust was established in September 1944 by Job Nightingale Derbyshire, a prominent Chartered Accountant who practised for many years in Nottingham.

The Trust does not actively fundraise and seeks to continue the philanthropic work desired by the donor through the careful stewardship of its existing resources.

At present the Council consists of three members of the Derbyshire family, together with three senior professionals with an in-depth knowledge of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire community.

Trusts Objectives and Eligibility Guidelines

We recommend that applicants first read the below to check they comply with the Trust’s objectives and eligibility guidelines before applying for funding to ensure that your grant application is eligible.

We prefer to make grants to charitable organisations situated in and operated for the benefit of people in Nottingham or Nottinghamshire.

We will not consider applications from nationally operated charities who have reported income of more than £1m in their latest set of financial statements that are available.

Please note that all applicants from National or Regional charities will be required to fully evidence delivery in Nottinghamshire in their application.

We do not make grants to individuals.

We only consider applications from organisations that have at least two years accounts(Income and expenditure plus Balance sheet.) These must be supplied with the application and filed with either the Charities Commission or Companies House (e.g. CIC or a company Limited by Guarantee).

We only make grants to registered charities, or companies (e.g. CIC or a company Limited by Guarantee) who operate on a not-for-profit basis.

If your organisation does not have two years filed accounts, do not apply. If you do apply when you are not eligible, it may harm a potential future application when your organisation could qualify.

Amounts and Rounds

Grants and donations range in size, with most grants awarded being in the range of £350 to £10,000.

There are currently two review meetings per year for all applications which usually take place in March and October.
The deadlines for submission of the application form for these meetings are 31 January and 31 August respectively.

Applicants of interest to the Trust will be contacted by the Secretary for further information.

Please note that the Trust receives more requests for help than they can meet from their resources and, therefore, have to make difficult decisions even when the criteria has been met.
